For Those Who Don't Understand the Performance and Function of Tension Clamps!

Tension clamps are one of the commonly used power fittings in power lines, and the commonly used types include optical cable tension clamps and conductor tension clamps. Tension clamps are mainly used for connection at corners, splices, and terminals. They are fittings that fix conductors to bear the tension of the conductors and hang the conductors on the tension string set or the tower.

Tension clamps can be roughly divided into two categories according to their structure and installation conditions:

  1. The first category: Tension clamps must bear the full tension of the conductor or lightning protection wire, and the gripping force of the clamp shall not be less than 90% of the rated tensile strength of the installed conductor or lightning protection wire. However, they do not serve as electrical conductors. Such clamps can be disassembled and reused after the conductor is installed. This category includes bolt-type tension clamps and wedge-type tension clamps, etc.
  2. The second category: In addition to bearing the full tension of the conductor or lightning protection wire, tension clamps also act as electrical conductors. Therefore, once such clamps are installed, they cannot be disassembled again, so they are also called "non-detachable tension clamps". Since they are electrical conductors, the installation of the clamps must be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the relevant installation operating procedures.

The main functions of tension clamps are as follows:

  1. Connection: Used for connection at line corners, splices, and terminals.
  2. Protection: Its performance and effect can protect the optical cable and play an auxiliary role in vibration reduction.
  3. Fixation: The clamps can bear the tension of the conductor and are used to fix the conductor or the stay wire of the tower.
